A note from 2026: I wrote this in 2024 while I was developing Heroes Riding Club and thinking about the values and culture I wanted to create around Equestrian Heroes. The ways riders can be part of Equestrian Heroes have continued to develop, but many of the thoughts behind this article are still part of my work today.

Become an Equestrian Hero

When I created Equestrian Heroes, I wanted to create a place where riders could talk about our horses, share the things we were learning and enjoy being part of a community of people who understood why the moments that happen with our horses matter so much.

Heroes Riding Club became part of that idea.

I was interested in the learning that happens around our time in the saddle as well as during it. A rider might want an exercise to try, have a question about something their coach has said or simply want to tell somebody about the moment when everything suddenly flowed.

I wanted riders to have access to coaching and learning in different ways, with plenty of room for curiosity, conversation and fun.

So what does it mean to become an Equestrian Hero?

It begins with the relationship we have with our horses. We learn to communicate, notice their responses, recognise when something goes well and think things through when we need another approach. Our horses have their own personalities, strengths and experiences, and there is always more for us to learn together.
