Year of the Horse: The Energy You Share with Your Horse

2026 is the Year of the Horse.

As a rider, that was more than enough to make me curious.

I wanted to know what the Horse represents in the Chinese zodiac, and when I discovered that 2026 is specifically the Year of the Fire Horse, I kept reading.

Energy, vitality, freedom and forward motion are among the qualities associated with the Horse. Fire brings another layer, with associations including passion, drive and momentum.

Of course, I started thinking about horses.

Energy between horse and rider

Energy was the part of the Fire Horse symbolism that interested me most.

When I ride, I don't think of energy as something I create. It is already there. My horse has energy and so do I. It can be steady, soft or powerful, with different levels of intensity.

I think we communicate through that energy too.

Energy is part of the thread between horse and rider. It is there in the space where we communicate and in the way we communicate.

Horses live in the present moment and are highly attuned to energy. They notice changes in us that we may barely have registered ourselves.

They are generous in the way they meet us there.

When we ride, the energy between us can change in subtle ways. We influence our horses and they influence us.
