Why I Wear a Reincoat for Riding and Coaching

A note from 2026: When I first wrote this article in 2022, Reincoat was called Equicoat. I’m still an ambassador today, so I’ve updated the article with their new name and my current ambassador code.

 It is very easy to be an Official Equicoat Coach Ambassador because their coats surpass my expectations.

• The Coats are very comfortable and don’t hinder movement.
• They are lightweight and quiet which helps when you are around horses.
• They are warm and they are WATERPROOF. In fact they are exceptionally good at keeping us dry and happy! 
• I found sizing easy as it’s based on height, I was worried but I didn’t need to be, I can fit lots of jumpers underneath if I need to but so far the fleece helps me feel protected from anything the weather might threaten me with.
• I felt smart wearing it which I’ll admit seems unlikely for a garment designed to be oversized yet I hold my head up and if I do look amusing so be it. It’s warm dry and professional to my mind. When the weather can’t seem to touch you it’s a lot easier to be focussed, calm and confident.

I choose a medium and black though there is a navy too that looks classic. Features wise, it has an impressive 20,000 hydrostatic head rating which is needed for any extreme outdoor adventures or a regular weekend with horses in winter! The zip is smooth and easy to use with gloves on. It has pockets and a great sized internal pocket ideal for a phone. I particularly like the way you can adjust the cuffs and the hood too is magic, often I feel as though the hood weighs down on my neck but this one is almost imperceptible. Then there are the clever ways you transform the coat for riding with simple leg straps and a two way zip allowing you to fit it to your riding form. 
The Equicoat has changed the way I look at rainy weather. I’m still to be found favouring the indoor but this next generation in Equestrian wet weather gear is helping me to feel comfortable outdoors too.
