What Does a Rider Need to Know?
What would you like to develop in your schooling?
When we ride, we're always asking questions.
Why did my horse react like that?
What exercise would help us most right now?
How can I explain this more clearly?
How can we communicate better?
What shall I do next time I ride?
An exercise is only the beginning
Knowing an exercise is useful. Understanding what you are trying to influence, noticing how your horse responds and being able to adapt what you do gives you much more to work with.
Your position and balance influence your horse. The way you prepare and communicate matters. An exercise can give you information as well as helping you develop a particular skill.
What happens when you change something?
Developing your rider know-how
Rider know-how develops as we connect what we learn with what we feel, notice and experience when we ride.
Balance, communication, way of going, schooling exercises, preparation and performance all give us different things to think about. As our understanding develops, we have more information to help us decide what to do next.
That curiosity can travel with us from one horse, lesson or schooling session to the next.
