Danny Anholt FBHS

Fellow of the British Horse Society | British Eventing Accredited Trainer | Senior Assessor | Coach Educator

Danny brings a wealth of experience to the Equestrian Athlete Coach Team, combining a lifetime in equestrian sport with a passion for empathetic, horse-centred coaching.

As Director of Equestrian Sports at Millfield for over 20 years, Danny created one of the UK’s leading equestrian school programmes, training riders across eventing, dressage, show jumping, para equestrian sport, and polo. Many of his riders have gone on to compete and coach professionally.

He has worked internationally as Chief Riding Instructor for the Royal Hong Kong Jockey Club, and continues to coach freelance alongside his role as a British Eventing Accredited Trainer.

Danny is also a long-standing Assessor for the British Horse Society, supporting coaches on their professional journey from Stage 1 to Fellowship. He has mentored many aspiring candidates and is known for his encouraging, insightful approach to professional development.

His belief in empathetic training runs through all his work. An inaugural member of the Centre 10 Applied Psychology for Equestrian Coaches programme, Danny champions a holistic approach that considers horse, rider, coach, parents, and owners.

Today, he continues to influence the industry through his work with the BHS Qualifications and Training Committee, while inspiring riders and coaches with his commitment to inclusivity, welfare, and lifelong learning.

Danny’s journey reflects both resilience and leadership. Originally trained at Porlock Vale Equestrian Centre, his career took a new direction after a serious injury in 2015 stopped him riding. This challenge became a source of inspiration, strengthening his commitment to coaching and mentoring.

Today, Danny is recognised as one of the lead voices on the industry’s positive response to Social Licence to Operate, advocating for welfare, empathy, and inclusion at every level of the sport.
